  The first protests against the introduction of new prices broke out on Dec. 14, 1970 year, the Gdansk shipyard. Lenin. Employees gathered in the yard in front of the directorate, and when their demands (abolition of price increases, raising wages, offset Władysława Gomułki, Józefa Cyrankiewicza, Mieczysława Moczara i Stanisława Kociołka) were not met, a crowd of several thousand went to the Provincial Party Committee in order to transfer their demands first Secretary Alojzemu Karkoszce, but this meeting did not take place. On the same day in the area of the station there were the first clashes with the demonstrators and zomo. The demonstration was suppressed by force, police used tear gas, many of the strikers were arrested.  On Tuesday, 15 December party first secretary, Wladyslaw Gomulka decided on the possibility of using weapons against the strikers, and Prime Minister Jozef Cyrankiewicz been accepted and adopted for implementation.

  Around noon, in response to the arson by the Provincial Committee of the headquarters of demonstrators into the streets of Gdansk drove tanks and armored personnel carriers. In addition to the militia marched into action several divisions of troops from Koszalin, Slupsk, Elblag Gdynia. Evening, the media reported the first fatalities.

  Law enforcement bureau was issued District Council of Gdansk, which were forbidden to leave the apartment between 6 pm and 5 am.
